Support for clean cooking in Africa

As part of the initiatives for the 15th anniversary of ENplus®, the certification scheme and Bioenergy Europe have decided to support the Sustainable School Cooking Program of the World Bioenergy Association through a partial sponsorship. This project is dedicated to deploying modern biomass solutions for clean cooking in schools across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Many schools in the region still rely on rudimentary cookstoves fuelled by charcoal or firewood. Clean pellet-based cooking would bring many benefits such as cleaner air and healthier kitchen environment for the staff and students, high efficiency and precise heat control that would reduce food waste. It would also significantly reduce the time spent on fuel collection and meal preparation.

Following successful pilot projects retrofitting school cookstoves to wood pellets, the program could be expanded to new projects in the region. More about it here!
